About Belsay Hall, Castle & Gardens
Belsay Hall, Castle & Gardens not only have a Greek revival mansion, a Medieval Castle but some lovely gardens for you to look around.
The key feature is the Quarry Garden where stone was taken from to build the hall and you can see the dinosaur food, actually giant rhubarb plants!
There is year round planting so always something to see from hellebores in the Children’s Garden, ferns & shrubs in the quarry and Siberian Squill in the Terrace Garden.
Highlights include the Rhododendron Garden and the Lilies in Spring and Summer.
There are a number of marked trails to follow including the plants and veteran tree trail.
You can take a self tour around the empty Hall and the Castle has a maze of rooms to explore including steps to the roof!
For Children there is a play area with climbing frames, swings and rope nets.
The Tea Room & Coach House Cafe is open for refreshments when you have finished exploring. Or before, your choice!
And there is a gift shop and second hand book shop as well.

Only assistance dogs are allowed in the Hall & Castle but dogs on leads are welcome elsewhere including the garden

“The Quarry gardens are fantastic too. Knowing all the stone came from the Quarry the build the hall.
It is good for the kids as well, plenty of exploring. There is a adventure playground as well.
The café are a nice place to relax and have something to eat and drink. “
“The hall and castle are so interesting to walk around and the walk through the forest is like Jurassic Park!
All the family will enjoy a visit. My elderly father managed all the walk. “
