About Picton Castle Gardens
Picton Castle Gardens is blessed with a unique micro climate enabling a diverse range of plants to thrive – just for you!
You can expect to see ancient woodlands, a superb walled garden, jungle ferns and round year displays of native and exotic plants.
The Walled Garden is very popular with a central fountain and a season of garden rooms with everchanging colours and scents.
Wildlife is also very much in evidence so keep your eyes open for bats, slow worms, bees, moths, frogs, toads and dragonflies.
With 50 acres to explore there are plenty of walks to be had and a new Children’s Trail is set each year.
The Courtyard Restaurant provides hot & cold meals, snacks, homemade cakes, ice cream and beverages.
You can of course take a tour of the 700 year old Castle with guided tours starting at 2pm – subject to availability!
Lawnmower Collection
I love this sort of thing!
There is a wonderful lawnmower collection which has been lent by the The Lumsden Trust.
There are 85 superbly restored lawnmowers to check out.
Dating from the early 19th Century to more modern times. Brilliant!

Don’t take our word for how genuinely super these gardens are. Here is what visitors to Picton Castle Gardens had to say:
“Everyone became children again, exploring the wonderful mature gardens with magnolias, azaleas and rhododendron the size of trees.
If you are a tree lover, it’s a feast.”
“A lovely couple of hours spent here walking around the beautiful gardens and peeking into history walking around the castle.”
“Really good gardens, lovely mixture of well curated formal borders, tropical borders, vegetable garden, woodland planting, gorgeous meadow.
The walled garden & peach walk garden behind it are both especially beautiful and full of flowers & butterflies”
