About Burghley House Gardens
Burghley House Gardens are actually really two main gardens with additional mini gardens and there is the wider parkland to enjoy as well.
The two main gardens are the Sculpture Garden and the Garden of Surprises.
The Sculpture Garden is home to a large number of sculptures and there are great views across to Capability Brown‘s great lake.
As you wander through the smaller gardens and features like the Valley Garden, Tropical Garden, past the Ice House, Swallows Hill, Teddy Bear’s Picnic and Enchanted Oak you will see some really interesting and unique sculptures.
I like The Portal by Nick Horrigan down by the Teddy Bears Picnic!
The hidden Garden of Surprises is inspired by astrology, astronomy and Classical civilisations.
You will find many features like fountains, a rill, grotto and a moss house and mirrored maze.
There is also the potential bonus of the South Gardens which are open for a few days of each year.
The Parkland is open from 7am to dusk if you wish to do a bit of exploring.
For the children there is the brilliant Hide & Secrets adventure playground complete with the stunning Hidden Towers.
You can take a tour of the house – again check opening dates.
There are so many places to eat from the Orangery Restaurant, Garden Cafe and Muddy Mole at the adventure playground.
A number of shops offer gifts, plants seasonal products and a whole lot more like the Courtyard Shop.
