About Down House Gardens
Down House was the family home of Charles Darwin and the gardens were his ‘outdoor laboratory’.
The Tropical Garden and Kitchen Garden are particular highlights.
Take the Folktale Creature Trails where children, and others, can discover magical creatures from English folklore.
You can see the Bees, see inside his Greenhouse and walk along the Sandwalk where he did a lot of his thinking.
Maybe you can get inspired as well?
Tour the house and exhibitions giving you insight into how Charles Darwin lived and worked.
As well as the house and gardens you can get refreshments at the Down House Café which uses produce from their own kitchen garden as well as local suppliers.
Run by English Heritage and as part of the National Garden Scheme.
