About Saltram House & Gardens – A National Trust Property
Saltram House Garden has bursts of colour throughout the year with a few key features to watch out for.
Pride of place, pun cheesy and intended, is the 400 year old oak tree as seen in 1995 film Sense & Sensibility.
There are a number of other Specimen Trees as well.
Enjoy some time on the lawns and Serptintine while the Great Terrace offers the opportunity for great views and walk in the woodlands.
There is the Orange Grove and the quarter of a mile long Lime Avenue.
In the gardens you will find the Chapel Cafe for drinks and snacks.
There is also a Cafe and Bookshop for you to visit in the grounds.
In the wider 500 acre estate, open from dusk to dawn, there is ample opportunity for walks down by the estuary and to the 18th-century folly known as the Amphitheatre.
The House has a number of rooms open to view such as the intriguing Chinese Bedroom and the famous Axminster carpet in the Saloon – costs extra but well worth it!
