About Stoneacre Garden
Stoneacre Garden, a National Trust Garden, is a garden in two halves with my current favourite hellebores in the front garden and seasonal daffodils in spring, and cow parsley and ox-eye daisies in summer.
The Medieval yeoman’s house is open for a few rooms to see including the parlour, solar room and great hall.
It was built in the 1480s by John Ellys and most of his original house still remains.
You can bring picnics to eat inside or out and there are super woodland walks to be taken in the Otham Valley with views back to Stoneacre.
There is now an artists space which can be used by those approved as part of bringing back the Arts and Crafts to life.

Visitor Reviews of Scotney Castle Garden
Google Visitor Review Score 4.5 stars
Don’t take our word for how genuinely super these gardens are. Here is what visitors think about their visit to Scotney Castle Garden:
Visitors consistently describe the property as beautiful, peaceful, and charming, with many calling it an “absolute gem.”
While modest in size and facilities, it is highly valued for its atmosphere, gardens, historical interest, and welcoming staff—making it an excellent destination for a short, tranquil visit, especially for National Trust members.
Charming historic house: Small in scale but rich in character, with around 6 rooms over two floors. Features such as the high-ceilinged main hall, original wooden staircase, and period details are frequently mentioned.
Beautiful gardens: Well-kept, peaceful, and layered with winding paths, cottage-style planting, and seasonal flowers (notably irises and peonies). Ideal for a gentle stroll or picnic.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff: Volunteers and staff are repeatedly praised for being enthusiastic, welcoming, and informative, often sharing engaging history of the house.
Calm and uncrowded: Most visitors report no wait times and recommend it as a relaxing visit, typically lasting 20–30 minutes indoors, or a couple of hours including gardens.
Accessibility considerations: Main car park is a field at the bottom of a short but steep hill, but a small number of disabled parking bays are available near the entrance, which many appreciated.
Family-friendly touches: Some mention children’s activities or games designed to spot features around the house.
