A Day of Beautiful Gardens in Historic Thaxted
Thaxted Open Gardens, held every other year since the 1990s, invites visitors to explore a wonderful variety of gardens across one of north Essex’s most beautiful historic towns.
With several new gardens joining returning favourites you can discover everything from formal designs to charming cottage and courtyard spaces while enjoying Thaxted’s picturesque medieval and Georgian streets.
Homemade cakes and refreshments will be available at the Church Hall and selected gardens, with local pubs offering something stronger.

About Thaxted Open Gardens
Thaxted Open Gardens has been opening its gardens every other year since the 1990s and this year has several new gardens on show to complement seasoned regulars.
And as Sir John Betjeman said “There is no town in north Essex – and very few in England – to equal in beauty, compactness and juxtaposition of medieval and Georgian architecture, the town of Thaxted”.
The gardens come in various shapes and sizes and there will be plenty of variety with formal, cottage and courtyard gardens on view.
You may even encounter an Alpaca or two.
There will be cakes and refreshments available at the Church Hall and at selective gardens around the town, with stronger beverages at the local pubs.
Proceeds go to the Friends of Thaxted Church to help in the preservation of this amazing medieval building.
