Gardens, Parkland and Palladian Charm!
Located about 2 miles north of Pangbourne in Berkshire, Basildon Park combines a restored 18th-century Palladian mansion with 400 acres of parkland. Visitors can explore formal gardens, Lady Iliffe’s rose garden, Italian terraces, woodland walks and spring bluebells. The estate also offers refreshments, a plant shop, bookshop and accessible picnic areas.
My top tip: If you are walking along the trails bring decent footwear!

Visitor Information for Basildon Park
Basildon Park is located about 2 miles north of Pangbourne and is a 400 acre estate with a restored 18th century Palladian style Mansion.
The first floor of the mansion is open to visitors, note it has 22 steps to access it.
You will find the drawing rooms, garden room, paintings and murals on display.
The Parkland has four waymarked walks, the remains of World War Two Nissen Hut, historic trees and probably cattle roaming around.
And if you visit between March and mid May there is a tremendous display of bluebells in the ancient woodland!
The formal garden was designed in the mid 18th century as a pleasure ground by David Brandon.
Now restored it has a rose garden (Lady Iliffe’s rose garden; no less) Italian terraces with smashing views over the Thames Valley.
There is also a unique thatched umbrello, designed for providing shade in the rose garden.
A perfect place to take a seat and read a book.
The Tearoom is open daily and is located in lower entrance hall of the house.
There is a shop, bookshop and a plant shop stocking seasonal produce in the stableyard.
And if you would like a picnic there are a couple of areas both of which have wheelchair accessible picnic benches.
Accessibility at Basildon Park

Dogs at Basildon Park
Dogs are allowed on leads in the grounds and gardens.
Assistance dogs only allowed in the mansion.
