About Cascades Gardens
Cascades Gardens are inspired by Japanese gardens and Buddhist philosophy and is perfect place to relax and unwind.
The 4 acre garden is based in an old quarry with a ruined mill, stream and a cliff with an 80 foot drop.
The garden has a number of areas to explore like the Japanese Tea House & Garden, Pool Garden, Karesansui Garden, Lead Mine, Buddist Garden and Waterfalls.
Expect to see see hellebores, my new favourite, perennials, ferns, rare shrubs, hostas, bonsai, conifers and trees.
An added bonus is that the gardens employ Zen Buddhist practice of zazen, which means to sit, so there are a lot of benches for you to rest on and listen to the music of trickling water. So peaceful!
An honesty box is there for cakes and drinks – nice!
The Bonsai Centre has a wide range of imported trees to buy and advice in plentiful supply along with starter kits.
Cascades Gardens is an RHS Partner Garden for those who are members.
Entry for those members is on a Mondy & Tuesday only.
Group visits can be arranged and refreshments provided.
If you want to stay at Cascades it is also a B&B with lovely rooms and a delicous sounding breakfast.
Check their website for more info and availability.
