About the House of Dun, Garden & Estate
The House of Dun, Garden & Estate is a classic 18th century laird estate with smashing views over the Montrose Basin.
The formal gardens are riot of colour and interest with roses, peonies, violas and well planted herbaceous borders.
Features include the rose bower, espaliers of apples and pears, yew hedges, a parterre and a sunn dial older than the house!
The Courtyard is home to the Angus Folk Collection, telling the stories of rural life in Angus and through to the Wee Bookshop.
Great for fiction, cookery, crafts and gardening books alike.
The woodland is a great place for walks past waterfalls and the ruins of Dun Castle and the burial mound of Fordhouse Barrow.
It’s an ideal area for wildlife spotting.
Take Lady Augusta’s Walk through the Den of Dun and watch out for Roe Deer, Otters, Red Squirrel, Woodpeckers and Yellowhammers.
There is a play area in the grounds and quizzes in the house for children.
The House is open for tours and is a Georgian Palladian style designed by renowned architect William Adam.
Erskine’s Café serves light lunches, snack, teas and coffee with indoor and outdoor seating. And ice creams on sunny days!

The gardens are suitable for wheelchairs. The wider estate has several paths which are wheelchair accessible.
