About Shaw’s Corner

Shaw’s Corner is located about 3 miles from Welwyn and was the home for 44 years of the Irish Playwright Georg Bernard Shaw from 1906 to 1950.

An Edwardian home it maintains its beautiful Arts & Crafts interior as he had a close friendship with William Morris.

You will find lots of objects of interest collected by Shaw and his wife , a well stocked library, art and many of his clothes and suits!

You can pre book guided tours of the house at 10:15am and 11:15am and self guide thereafter.

The garden is very much as Shaw left it with its 3.5 acres surrounding the Edwardian Villa.

Look out for the cherry blossom on what used to be the carriage drive.

The lawns and the herbaceous borders filled with alliums, foxgloves and delphiniums make a splendid resting place.

There is a wildflower meadow and an orchard ideal for some wildlife and bird spotting!

And at the bottom of the garden is Shaw’s revolving writing hut, fashioned so he could follow the sun on its journey and making available smashing views.

There is a small Kiosk with a bookshop, plant sales and some food and drink for sale.
