A Peaceful Garden In The West End!
The Phoenix Garden is in London’s West End, behind the Phoenix Theatre between Shaftesbury Avenue and Charing Cross Road. Created in 1984 on a former car park, this community garden is now a peaceful ornamental wildlife oasis. It has the West End’s only frog population, refreshments, events, workshops, picnics and a community building available for hire, including weddings.
My top tip: I would bring a book & just chill out!

Visitor Information for the Phoenix Garden
The Phoenix Garden is located in the heart of London’s West End, behind the Phoenix Theatre and between Shaftsbury Avenue and Charing Cross Road.
A former car park it is now a community garden and charity, and was created in 1984 as the last of seven gardens that were originally located in the area.
The good news is that the lease is due to run until 2035, and let’s hope they can extend beyond that and keep the developers at bay!
I must have walked past this garden so many times when living and working in London! Never knew it was there.
As an ornamental wildlife garden it provides a quiet oasis away from all the Soho noise and distractions.
And is also home to the West Ends only frog population in the pond!
Refreshments are available including tea, coffee and snacks are available and you can always a bring in a picnic!
You will often find events taking place like Petanque, well being courses and workshops like the weekly Back 2 Nature ones.
The Phoenix Garden Community Building is available to hire – great for corporate away days in such a brilliant location.
And for those contemplating getting married the garden is a registered Camden Wedding venue. How cool would that be?
Accessibility at the Phoenix Garden
Wheelchair accessible. Many of the paths were created from rubble when the garden was developed! Accessible loo as well.
Dogs at the Phoenix Garden
Assistance dogs only are allowed in the garden.
