Treasurer’s House – Award Winning City Garden Beside York Minster
The Treasurer’s House is a fascinating National Trust property created by Frank Green, who filled it with an outstanding collection of art, furniture and clocks before gifting it to the National Trust in 1930.
Nestled beside York Minster, its award winning walled garden is a peaceful oasis designed around the harmony of grass, trees and ancient stone. Visitors can admire colourful displays of irises, crocuses, tulips, peonies, wisteria and delphiniums, alongside a tranquil pond, fountain and the magnificent avenue of London plane trees.
A café, gift shop and second-hand bookshop complete this delightful city-centre escape, while the beautifully decorated Christmas displays make winter visits especially memorable.

This aaward winning garden has three main principles, which is to maintain the contrast of grass, tree and old stone.
Expect to find a pond, fountain and planting of iris, crocus and tulip s well as peonies, wisteria along the walls and delphiniums
Perhaps the main feature is the avenue of London Plane trees which were planted ahead of a visit by the then Prince and Princess of Wales.
There is a shop just around the corner and a Cafe which is down some stepped access.
