A Secret Sculpture Garden in Kemptown!
In Kemptown, Brighton, The Secret Garden is a secluded community oasis behind Sussex Square. Once reached through a private tunnel, this historic walled garden now combines cottage style planting, changing sculpture exhibitions and a central lawn created from an old tennis court. Visitors can enjoy the small wildlife pond, café, tea & cakes in peaceful surroundings.
My top tip: Enjoy the cakes in the Café!

Visitor Information for The Secret Garden
The Secret Garden is set in Brighton’s Kemptown just up from the front and Sussex Square and is now run by the Anthony Dale Trust.
The garden has been transformed into a sculpture garden with changing artwork you can purchase.
Originally accessed via a private tunnel from number 32 Sussex Square it is now a community space and a real oasis away from the urban surrounds.
The garden transformation started in 2014 and continues with the emphasis on planting to support the sculptures as well as capturing the cottage garden feel.
I love how the old tennis court is now the central display lawn!
And in order to encourage wildlife like dagonflies there is a small pond – an you find it?
While you are at the gardens enjoy the The Café run by Siobhan FitzGerald where the tea, cakes, scones and sausage rolls all come highly recommended.
Opening hours of the Café vary so best to check their Instagram account for updates.
The garden also doubles as a wedding and events venue between April and October.
Accessibility at The Secret Garden
The garden is wheelchair accessible.
Dogs at The Secret Garden
Not clear but possibly assistance dogs only.
